The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the United States against five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe such as the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans targeted individuals that were at the heart of efforts to introduce laws governing American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
