Christantus Uche Ignites Straightforward Crystal Palace Victory at Shelbourne.

Even though embarking on their maiden continental campaign, Crystal Palace are adapting at a rapid pace. Missing star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable win that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.

Another three points in their upcoming fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal straight passage to the last 16, especially following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity

This match offered a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.

A Shelbourne side that had concluded their league season were no match even for a largely second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee injuries.

Dominance Established from the Start

In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.

Midfielder Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the referee waved away the appeals.

Ex-Arsenal man didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had struck the post.

Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Contest

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.

The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.

A solitary concern for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the visiting side.
